Gapjunctionalintercellularcommunicationisthoughttoplayakeyroleindevelopmentandmayalsobeinvolvedinepilepsy(Aronicaetal.,2001).Connexin43formsgap-junctionalchannelsandregulatesthepermeABIlityofthesegapjunctionstosmallorganicmolecules.Permeabilityofconnexin43isknowntoberegulatedbyphosphorylationatSer368byproteinkinaseC(Yogoetal.,2002;Baoetal.,2004a).PhosphorylationofSer368 byPKCinducesaconformationalchangeofconnexin43thatresultsinadecreaseingapjunctionpermeability(Baoetal.,2004b).
