TheEwingSarcomaBreakpointRegion1(EWSR1)geneencodestheEWSprotein,whichalongwithFUSandTAF15comprisestheFETfamilyofRNA-bindingproteins. EWSisprimarilyexpressedinthenucleus,buthasalsobeenfoundinthecytoplasmofsecretorycelltypes(Anderssonetal.,2008). DefectsofEWSR1areknowntocauseEwingsarcomaandhavebeenimplicatedinamyotrophiclateralsclerosis(ALS)(Svetonietal.,2016). Recently,EWShasbeenshowntodirectlyinteractwithoncogenicETStranscriptionfactorsinthepromotionofprostatecancer(Kedageetal.,2016).
