Calbindin(aka.calbindinD28k)isamemberofthecalcium-bindingproteinsuperfamilythatincludescalmodulinandtroponinC.Itispredominantlyexpressedincertaintypesofneurons,particularlyindendritesandperikaryaofthecerebellumandisthoughttobufferentryofcalciumuponstimulationofglutamatereceptors(Andressenetal.,1993). CalbindinhasrecentlybeenshowntoplayacriticalroleinmitochondrialdysfunctionandlossofsynapticproteinsinvivoinanAlzheimer’sdiseasemousemodel(Kooketal.,2014).
