Voltage-gatedK+channelsareimportantdeterminantsofneuronalmembraneexcitABIlity(Pongs,1999).Moreover,differencesinK+channelexpressionpatternsanddensitiescontributetothevariationsinactionpotentialwaveformsandrepetitivefiringpatternsevidentindifferentneuronalcelltypes.Thedelayedrectifier-type(IK)channels(Kv1.5,Kv2.1,andKv2.2)areexpressedonallneuronalsomataandproximaldendritesandarealsofoundinawidevarietyofnon-neuronalcellstypesincludingpancreaticislets,alveolarcellsandcardiacmyocytes(Hwangetal.,1993;Yanetal.,2004;Michaelevskietal.,2003).Kv2.1andKv2.2formdistinctpopulationsofK+channelsandthesesubunitsarethoughttobeprimarilyresponsIBLeforIKinsuperiorcervicalganglioncells(BlaineandRibera,1998;BurgerandRibera,1996).
