BIOLOGicalSignificance:Collapse
TheeIF4A,eukaryoticinitiationfactor4A,areasetofproteins,eIF4A1,eIF4A2,andeIF4A3,thatbelongtotheextensiveDEAD-boxRNAhelicasefamily(Weinsteinetal.,1997).TheyareinvolvedinmanyaspectsofRNAmetabolismbyvirtueoftheirRNA-bindingcapacityandATPaseactivity(Luetal.,2014). eIF4A2isahighlyconservedgeneforoneoftheprotein-synthesisinitiationfactorsinvolvedinthebindingofmRNAtotheribosome(Gingrasetal.,1999).InhumanseIF4A2isexpressedinallnormaltissues,thoughhighlyexpressedinskeletalmuscle(Sudoetal.,1995). StudiessuggesteIF4A2mayplayaroleinsomecancers,specificallybreastandlungcancer,alongwithmelanoma(Shaoyanetal.,2013).
