Theserine/threoninekinaseAktalsoknownasproteinkinaseB(PKB)orRac,playsacrucialroleincontrollingmanydiverseandimportantcellularfunctionssuchascellsurvivalandglycogenmetabolism(Hajduchetal.,2001andNicholson&Anderson,2002).Threeisoforms(α,β,andγ)havebeenidentifiedthatcanbeactivatedrapidlyinresponsetoinsulinandgrowthfactorsinaphosphoinositide3-kinase(PI3K)-dependentfashion(Hajduchetal.,2003).PhosphorylationofAktαoccursattwospecificregulatorysitesinDrosophila,onelocalizedinthekinasedomain,Thr342,andtheotherintheC-terminalregulatorydomain,Ser505:thesetwoactivationsitesarehomologoustomammalianSer473andThr308respectively(Powelletal.,2004).
