ThetranscriptionfactorATF2isamemberoftheATF/CREBfamilyofleucinezipperproteins.Inresponsetostressstimuli,itactivatesavarietyofgenetargetsthatareinvolvedinoncogenesis,andhasbeencorrelatedwithmaintenanceofacancercellphenotype(Vlahopoulosetal.,2008).InhibitingATF2impedesmelanomadevelopmentandelicitstumorsuppressorfunction(Bhoumiketal.,2008).Toactasatumorsuppressor,ATF2mustlocalizeatthemitochondria,andphosphorylationatThr52byPKCεregulatesthistranslocation(Lauetal.,2012).
