Neurofilamentsarethe10nmorintermediatefilamentproteinsfoundspecificallyinneurons,andarecomposedpredominantlyofthreemajorproteinscalledNF-L,NF-MandNF-H(1).NF-HistheneurofilamenthighorheavymolecularweightpolypeptideandrunsonSDS-PAGEgelsat200-220kDa,withsomevariABIlityacrossspeciesboundaries.AntibodiestoNF-Hareusefulforidentifyingneuronalcellsandtheirprocessesintissuesectionsandintissueculture.NF-Hantibodiescanalsobeusefultovisualizeneurofilamentaccumulationsseeninmanyneurologicaldiseases,suchasAmyotrophicLateralSclerosis(LouGehrig’sdisease)(2)andAlzheimer’sdisease(3).
