Thespliceosomeassociatedproteinof~49kDa(SAP49),alsoknownasSF3B4,isawidelyexpressednuclearsplicingfactorthathasbeenshowntohaveRNAbindingactivityaswellasdirectinteractionwithSAP145(Champion-ArnaudandReed1994).TheSAP145-SAP49complexhasrecentlybeenimplicatedincellcycleprogressionasVpr(viralprotein1ofHIV-1)hasbeenshowntobindSAP145thusinterferingwiththeproperformationandfunctioningoftheSAP145-SAP49complex(TeradaandYasuda2006).
