Metabotropicglutamatereceptors(mGluRs)arekeyreceptorsinthemodulationofexcitatorysynaptictransmissioninthecentralnervoussystem.Theyareimplicatedinmanyformsofneuralplasticityaswellaslearningandmemoryanddrugabuse(Bhattacharyaetal.,2004;Francesconietal.,2004;WilsonandNicoll,2001).ThemGluRsaredividedintothreegroupsbasedonsequenceidentityandpharmacologicalproperties:groupI(mGluR1andmGluR5)arelocalizedintheperisynapticregionofthepostsynapticmembrane,whereasgroupII(mGlur2andmGluR3)andgroupIII(mGluR4,6,7and8)arelocalizedpredominantlyatpresynapticterminals.PKCphosphorylationofserine862onmGluR7hasbeenshowntobecriticalforstABIlizingreceptorsurfaceexpressionandpromotingbindingtothesynapticPDZ-domain-containingproteinPICK1(Suhetal.,2008).
