PSD-95isaveryprominentcomponentofthepostsynapticdensitiesofsynapses.ItcontainsthreePDZdomainswhichplaykeyrolesinitsinteractionswithotherproteinsinthesynapse.IthasbeenproposedthatthesePDZdomainsorganizeglutamatereceptorsandtheirassociatedsignalingproteinsanddeterminethesizeandstrengthofsynapses(KimandSheng,2004).RecentworksuggeststhatinteractionoftheNMDARwithPSD-95viathesePDZdomainscanberegulatedbyphosphorylation(Chungetal.,2004).
