StargazinisamemberofthetransmembraneAMPARregulatoryproteins(TARP)familyandisinvolvedinglutamatereceptortrafficking.Ithasbeenrecentlydemonstrated(Tomitaetal.,2005;Prieletal.,2005)thattheinteractionbetweenstargazinandAMPAreceptorsiscriticalforthecorrectlocalizationofthereceptorsatthesynapse.PhosphorylationofthestargazinproteinatThr321byProteinKinaseAregulatesitsinteractionwithPSD-95andsynaptictargetingofAMPAreceptors(Choietal.,2002).
