ParkinisanE3ligaseintheubiquitin-proteasomesystem.HereditaryParkinson’sdiseaseismostcommonlycausedbymutationsintheparkingeneandischaracterizedbytheprogressivelossofdopaminergicneuronsandthepresenceofLewybodiesinthesubstantianigra(Jenneretal.,1992).RecentevidencesuggeststhatphosphorylationofparkinatSer378mayhaveanimportantregulatoryroleonitsE3ubiquitinligaseactivity(Yamamotoetal.,2005).
