Tropomyosin-receptor-kinase(TRK)receptorsaremembersofthereceptortyrosinekinasefamilyandincludeTrkA,TrkBandTrkC.Eachofthesereceptortypeshasdifferentbindingaffinitiestotheneurotrophinsnervegrowthfactor(NGF),brain-derivedneurotrophicfactor(BDNF)andneurotrophin3(NT-3).TrkBhasthehighestaffinitytobindingBDNFwhichplayscriticalrolesinthefunctionandsurvivalofneuronsintheCNS(Soppetetal.,1991;Kleinetal.,1991).Additionally,alterationsinexpressionofTrkBhavebeenassociatedwithAlzheimer’sdisease(Ferreretal.,1999;Chenetal.,2008).
