Glycogensynthasekinase3(GSK3)isaserine/threoninekinasethatisinvolvedintheregulationofmanysignalingpathways.Todate,2isoformshavebeenidentified:GSK3αandGSK3β.Specifically,GSK3βhasbeenshowntoplayakeyinhibitoryroleinboththeinsulinandWntsignalingpathways(PapkoffandAikawa1998).IthasbeensuggestedthatSer9phosphorylationunderliestheinhibitionofGSK3βbyinsulin(Sutherlandetal.,1993).
