TheHsp70familyofheatshockproteinsareconsideredstress-inducedsurvivalproteinsastheyareexpressedwhenexposedtofactorssuchasheat,hypoxia,oxidativestress,alteredpHorbyunderlyingfactorslikecancer(Daugaardetal.2007). Hsp70proteinsareabletobindhydrophobicresiduesonmisfoldedproteins,therebypreventingtheiraggregationandthusservingimportantrolesinproteinhomeostasis. Todate,therehavebeen8membersofthefamilyidentified;themajorityofwhicharefoundinthecytosolthoughsomehavespecificfunctionintissueoranorganelle(Murphy,2013). Hsp70hasalsobeenshowntoplayamajorroleincancer;fromtumorgradetoprognosis,aswellaschemotherapeuticdrugresistance(Cioccaetal,2005).Therehavebeenseveralphospho-serineandthreoninesitesidentifiedwithinHsp70,theroleofeachonehasyettobedetermined.
