MAPkinase-interactingkinasesMnk1andMnk2,areactivatedbytheMAPkinases,ERKandp38(Waskiewiczetal.,1997). Additionally,Mnk1andMnk2havebeenshowntophosphorylatethetranslationinitiationfactoreIF4E(FukunagaandHunter1997;Waskiewiczetal.,1997). AlternativesplicingoftheMKNK2generesultsintwoisoformswithdifferentC-termini:onethathasaMAPK-bindingdomain,Mnk2a,andonethatdoesnot,Mnk2b(Parraetal.,2005). RecentstudieshaveindicatedthatMnk2ahastumorsuppressiveactivitywhileMnk2bispro-oncogenic(Maimonetal.,2014).
