NSF(N-ethylmaleimidesensitivefusionprotein)isacriticalcomponentoftheSNARE(solubleNSFattachmentproteinreceptors)proteincomplexthatisinvolvedinsynapticvesicletrafficking.Specifically,NSFhasbeenfoundtobeessentialinmembranefusion.FurThermore,NSFhasbeenrecentlydemonstratedtobindotherproteincomplexessuchasAMPAreceptorsubunits(GluR2),GATE-16,LMA-1andRabssuggestingamorediverseroleintheassemblyofvariousproteincomplexes(Whiteheartetal.,2004).
