SynapsinIplaysakeyroleinsynapticplasticityinbrain(Fengetal.,2002;Nayaketal.,1996).ThiseffectisdueinlargeparttotheABIlityofthesynapsinstoregulatetheavailabilityofsynapticvesiclesforrelease.Theroleofsynapsininsynapticplasticityandinsynaptogenesisisregulatedbyphosphorylation(Jovanovicetal.,2001;Kaoetal.,2002).Ser549alongwithSer62andSer67arethesitesofSynapsinIthatarephosphorylatedbyMAPkinase(Czerniketal.,1987;Jovanovicetal.,1996).
