Synaptophysin2,alsoknownasSynaptoporin,isacomponentofthesynapticvesiclemembraneandthoughttoplayanimportantroleinsynapticvesicletrafficking(Daietal.,2003).ItishighlyhomologoustoSynaptophysin1,yetdiffersinexpression.WhereasSynaptophysin1isubiquitouslyexpressed,Synaptophysin2isconcentratedinthemossyfibersynapsesofthehippocampus(Grabsetal.,1994;Singecetal.,2002).
