Synaptotagminiswidelyregardedastheprimarycalciumsensorforsynapticvesicleexocytosis(Fernandez-Chaconetal.,2001;Wangetal.,2003).Moreover,recentstudiesindicatethattheproteinalsoplaysakeyroleinendocytosis(Poskanzeretal.,2003).Synaptotagmincanbephosphorylatedbymultipleproteinkinasesandthismayplayakeyroleinmodulationofsynaptotagmin’sABIlitytoinfluenceboththeexocytoticandendocytoticcomponentsofsynaptictransmission(Hilfikeretal.,1999;Leeetal.,2004).
