Syntaxinsareafamilyofproteinsinvolvedinthedockingofsynapticvesicleswiththeplasmamembrane.Syntaxin,alongwithsynaptobrevinandSNAP-25,formstheSNAREcomplexwhichmediatessynapticvesiclefusionandexocytosis.BindingofMunc18-1totheN-terminusofsyntaxin1hasbeendemonstratedtobeessentialforexocyticmembranefusion(Khvotchevetal.,2007).Decreasedlevelsofphosphorylatedsyntaxin1intheprefrontalcortexhaverecentlybeencorrelatedwithschizophrenia(Castilloetal.,2010).
